On Sunday 6th October, the annual Barry Angling festival took place, in conjunction with the Garry Sea Master Final. Here is the right up from Steve Chadwick with all of the results.
Barry Angling Festival / Garry Evans Seamaster Final 2024.
The 44th Garry Evans Seamaster final took place this weekend in conjunction with the Barry Angling Festival. Fishing the beaches of Cold Knap, Porthkerry, Rhoose & Fontygary. The week prior to the event in reasonably settled weather conditions, those who practice fished the area struggled to find fish with only the odd blonde ray being caught. The match day weather conditions were awfull with heavy rainfall for most of the competition. Fortuneatly the wind stayed a light south easterly which resulted in good sea conditions. 82 anglers entered the seniors match & 7 juniors fished with 49 anglers bringing fish to the scales in this catch & release match. 14 different species of fish were caught. i.e. conger eel, blonde / spotted / smalled eyed rays, dogfish, bull huss, rockling, gobi, bass, pouting, mullett, wrasse, whiting & smoothound. Total match weight 144kgs.
This years total prize table again equated to around £3000.
Junior Section.
The festival junior winner from Llanelli was Welsh Junior International, 12 year old Max Worsey. Max weighed in 0.94kgs consisting of a conger eel & a rockling. Winning himself a £50 tackle voucher & the Junior Barry Angling Festival Shield.
In second place was 6 year old Lawson Gamlin from Cardiff weighing in 0.86kgs of pouting & a mullett. Lawson won a £30 tackle voucher.
In Third place was Dan Winters from Barry with 0.76kg consisting of wrasse, pouting, conger eel & rockling. Dan won a £20 tackle voucher.
All Junior prizes were donated by Craig Maddock, ACSA East Region Chairman.
Barry Angling Festival Seniors result.
For the 4th time in 5 years, in first position was Angling Ambitions rod builder from Barry Dai Llewellyn, fishing for Holton Road Anglers with 16.605kgs consisting of 2 of conger eels & 2 blonde rays. Dai won the festival first prize of £500 donated by Angling Cymru Sea Anglers East Region (ACSAER) along with £80 pool money for the heaviest bag of fish & the Barry Angling Festival Shield.
In second place fishing for Caerau SAC was last years Garry Evans Seamaster champion Shaun Moore with 9.40kgs consisting of 2 conger eels & 2 blonde rays. Shaun won £250 cash donated by ACSAER.
Third place went to Cardiff SAA member Justin Bird with 8.55kgs of 2 conger eels & 4 rockiling. Justin won himself a Anyfish Anywhere Bass Pro rod donated by the ACSAER shore league TEAM SAKUMA.
Fourth place in the festival was Shuan Tucker from Neath fishing for Tata SAC with 7.74kgs consisting of 2 blonde rays & a conger eel. Shuan won a Penn Fathom 15 donated by Cardiff SAA member John Powell.
In fifth place was Barry stalwart Ray Christofarto with 6.82kgs consisting of 1 blonde ray & a small eyed ray. Ray won a Anyfish Anywhere 14ft Six & Bait rod donated by Julian Shambrook.
The heaviest nominated species pool, was won by Steve Roberts fishing for Newport & District SAC, he won £80 pool for the heaviest pouting of 0.50kgs.
Garry Evans Most Points 2023/24.
1st Shaun Moore with 127.5 points winning him £125. The highest number of points in the 44 year history of the Seamaster's.
2nd place Roy Tapper with 87 points winning him £75.
3rd place Dai Llewellyn with 77 points winning him £50.

In first place for the 4th time in 5 years was Angling Ambitions rod biulder & Holton Road Angling member Dai Llewellyn with 16.605kgs. Dai won a £250 tackle voucher & the coveted Seamaster Trophy.
Runner up was last years Garry Evans Seamaster champion Shuan Moore with 9.40kgs. Shaun won £150 tackle voucher.
Third place went to Neath angler Shaun Tucker. Shaun won won a £100 tackle voucher.
